Red Hat Recognizes 2010 Red Hat Certified Engineers of the Year
BOSTON, Jun 21, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the 2010 recipients of its annual Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) of the Year contest. Red Hat's RHCE(R) of the Year contest is a celebration of the hard work, expertise and ingenuity that winners have demonstrated to help innovate and drive IT results.
Red Hat certifications are among the most highly regarded in the IT industry. Red Hat's performance-based testing requires candidates to perform tasks required in production IT environments. RHCE is an objective and measurable designation that confirms an IT professional has the knowledge, skills and ability to configure and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.
"Red Hat certifications continue to be in high demand by employers and IT professionals," said Randy Russell, director of certification for Red Hat. "We recently hit a major milestone having issued more than 50,000 RHCE certifications since launching the program eleven years ago. RHCEs continue to provide value to their organizations and clients as shown by the accomplishments of this year's RHCE of the Year winners."
The 2010 RHCE of the Year winners include:
-- Roberto J. Calva, Banco Azteca
Calva was first introduced to Linux and open source more than ten years ago. As an engineer, Calva has implemented Red Hat Enterprise Linux to reduce costs while improving performance and productivity. To take the next step in his career, Calva realized the importance of holding technical certifications in the IT industry. His dedication to Linux and open source throughout the years led Calva to earn his RHCE credentials. As an RHCE, he has received high recognition across his company. Calva's future plans include sitting for a Red Hat Certified Security Specialist certification.
-- Sandro Mathys, Eidgenoessische-Technische Hochschule Zuerich
Mathys serves as a Linux systems engineer at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. He utilizes his RHCE skills working on a team that plans, maintains and supports the university's central Red Hat Network Satellite infrastructure which manages more than 1,000 Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers and desktops. To be prepared for future Red Hat Network Satellite releases, Mathys closely watches Spacewalk, Red Hat Network Satellite's open source community project. Mathys is also an active contributor to the Fedora Project, serving in a variety of roles including organizing the Fedora Users and Developers Conference (FUDCon) to be held Sept. 17-19, 2010 in Zurich, Switzerland.
-- Matthew Micene, DLT Solutions
Micene utilized his RHCE skills as a lead engineer at DLT Solutions to help migrate a production database from Solaris to Red Hat Enterprise Linux. His RHCE credentials instilled confidence in his internal customer that the migration would run smoothly. Micene implemented Red Hat Network Satellite to manage local production configurations and a development site. Weekend patch windows that previously took hours became a scheduled job and Web-based status check.
The winners will each receive a 2010 RHCE of the Year plaque and will be honored at both the Red Hat Certified Professional Summit Reception and during the closing ceremony at the 2010 Red Hat Summit and JBoss World in Boston, June 22-25, 2010.
